Tusnelda and Trix

92. Two steps forward, one step back

I am ready again with an update of several characters in Tusnelda’s universe. One way or another, this chapter is going to be about the many faces of love. It often does. I don’t think I have much else to say, so let’s get started.

*****

Morning in The Bedrock Strait district of Oasis Springs

Don is by no means a singer, but lately he’s started humming when he’s in his own thoughts.

He is very grateful that Valentino has offered him shelter after his breakup with Katrina.

Well, one can most definitely not speak of a breakup in the normal sense. Their long mutual exchange of favors ended in a very hateful explosion. Had he not been lucky enough to meet Valentino at an awards ceremony, he would have been relegated to living in a cardboard box or sleeping on his friends’ couches.

Apart from that, he doesn’t feel that blessed. Lately, his gradually fine-tuned talent to charm and please women with ease has started to fail him.
He feels like an old motor vehicle where the engine is starting to show signs of wear and tear.

It now dawns on Don that he has spent a lot of time on useless thoughts and he has to leave to get to work on time.

He puts the breakfast leftovers in the fridge until Valentino gets up.

A little later he is on his way, heading for the Harbor Quarter Gym, to meet his trainees.

*****

Morning in San Myshuno

At about the same time, we find Fatima making scrambled eggs at the stove.

She has time off from her job at the clinic. She and Elijah have some practical preparations for their wedding.

Elijah comes from the bathroom and sees to his satisfaction that Fatima has prepared breakfast for him.

He sits down to eat while Fatima makes coffee. Well begun is half done and you can’t get started without coffee, she usually says.

He sits and watches her pour coffee into a mug when there is a knock on the front door.

It is yet another of Fatima’s previous roommates who pays her a visit.

“Hey Kristine, do you want to come inside?” he says welcomingly.

Meanwhile, Fatima is on her way to find a seat at the table. She can hear voices in the hallway.

“I’ve actually never seen the décor in your photo studio. It’s very red and black.” says Kristine, a little surprised.

“Most of it is a holdover from the previous tenant, but I like it. We could make an appointment for a day when I can take your portrait.” Elijah replies kindly.

“You have a guest Fatima, guess who. I can give you a hint. It’s one of your previous roommates.”

“It could be anyone!?” Fatima says with a smile.

“I didn’t know you were such an introverted character Elijah.” says Fatima, surprised.

“I’m not.” he replies with a wink. ( It’s just the idea of what he wants to do with Fatima that he can’t do in the presence of others. It will not be appropriate.)

“Kristine, can I offer you some breakfast or a coffee?” he asks kindly.

“Thank you, I just came to say hello. I can come back another time.” says Kristine, clearly sensing the elephant in the room.

“It might be better for Fatima and I have some errands in town, isn’t that so?” says Elijah to the slightly surprised Fatima.

What has he come up with now? she thinks in her quiet mind.

“We’ll see you at the wedding, so I won’t bother you anymore.” says Kristine.

“Well, we look forward to that Kristine and you are most welcome.” Elijah says with a big smile.

Fatima has finished her coffee and will do the dishes to get ready for whatever Elijah has in mind. We will leave them here.

Morning in Brindleton Bay

Melvin searches the front of the house for creeps to hunt. Then he spots something that catches his attention.

The dog has returned and she has obviously chosen to sleep right in front of the house this night.

At the same moment, Tusnelda returns from her morning run. She has thought everything through and she knows she will have to talk to Martin about her fears. If she stays silent it will dig a ditch between them and she doesn’t want that.

*****

“Tusnelda I’m so relieved that you’re ready to tell me what’s bothering you. I can tell you’ve been struggling…You know you can tell me anything, don’t you?” Martin asks openly.

“I know Martin and I am very grateful”

“It’s kind of hard for me…I, you know I don’t want to hurt you Martin, but….It’s hard.” she stutters.

“Hey Sweetie, take a break and catch your breath. I’m here for you.” he says softly and puts an arm around her.

They sit like that for a while without either of them speaking. Tusnelda lets Martin’s calm breath creep into her breathing.

“You can’t hurt me when we are together.” he whispers.

For a moment she just let herself be embraced by the safe feeling of his presence. She feels a heat flowing through her veins.

“So what do you want to say?” he asks softly.

“You know I talked to the doctor about getting pregnant. However, I do remember him once telling me that 30-40% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. I asked him about getting a treatment that can lower that percentage. I think medical science must be able to prevent that, but he said it’s not possible .”

“It took me so long to get pregnant and I’m afraid It never happens again. The worst thing is that I fear just as much that I will get pregnant and have another miscarriage.….It’s terrifying and I’m so afraid I’ll let you down again.”

“I know you want a child Martin and so do I but I…. I’m so ashamed of being such a useless mess.”

Martin has been listening to everything she had to say in silence until now.

“Tusnelda, have you ever considered that I may be the cause of the fetus’s demise?” he asks.

“That sounds silly Martin. How can you be to blame?” she says with a surprised smile.

“As far as I’m aware, it takes two cells to fuse into a fetus, doesn’t it? Have you considered that the cell I delivered may have had some defects.” he insists.

“But no Martin, it could never be your fault! How could you prevent it? It’s out of your control.” says Tusnelda.

“Exactly Sweetie. It’s out of my control and yours, so why should you be ashamed of something you can’t control?”

“Listen Sweetie, you can’t stop me from grieving if it happens again. It will be tragic for both of us, but the most important thing is that we’re in this together. Remember?” He says softly.

She knows he’s right. The most important thing is that they stay together.

She leans into his embrace and feels him give her a light kiss on the forehead. There is nothing to fear.

*****

Shortly afterwards, Tusnelda has to leave for work.

Martin follows her with his eyes. He has a feeling that he finally got through to her.

Although he can never be entirely sure. Tusnelda’s mind seems to follow its own twisted route. He may find it difficult to grasp her, but sooner or later they always end up on a common track.

She had never really thought how this miscarriage might look from Martin’s side. He always seems so composed and she has been so absorbed in her own pain. Almost accused him of not caring. Will she ever learn?

Then she lightly shakes her head and looks straight ahead.

She is going back to work and she is looking forward to it.

Martin stands up. The weather is good so he might as well get back to his training.

He goes out to his climbing wall and adjusts the difficulty of the climb. He has a goal ahead of him.

He purposefully works his way forward and upwards to distance himself from whatever worries him. Always with a goal in mind.

*****

Windenburg in the Harbor Quarter Gym

We find Don in the Harbor Quarter Gym where he is scouting for trainees. Contrary to Martin, he seems far less sure of his ambition but now his eyes have caught a newcomer.

“Hey there! You seem new here? My name is Don. Do you need some savvy professional guidance?”

The woman looks at him with a sheepish expression.

“What do you mean by savvy professional guidance?”

“Excuse me if I express myself a little unclearly. I am a professional sports coach, so I could show you some exercises.” Don says kindly as he wonders how she could doubt what he was offering.

“Oh, I see. I’m Becca.” she says

“You see Don. I’m not really into sports, so I don’t think you have anything to offer that’s for me.”

“That sounds like a pretty controversial statement coming from a woman who is clearly in good shape.” Don says with a twinkle in his eye.

Becca stands and looks appraisingly at him with a teasing look in her eye.

“Would you like us to find a quiet place together where you can convince me why I should be interested in sports?” she asks.

“I’m sorry Becca, but that’s not possible. I’m at work looking for some trainees, in the professional sense, without ulterior motives.” Don quickly replies.

“But I swear it’s not because I don’t find you attractive Becca, I do, but no, I’m a professional coach.” Don insistently continues.

“I see. No bad feelings” Becca replies with a disappointed look

When she quickly turns her back on him, she tells him with all clarity that she is lying.

Why the hell does he always end up in situations like this?…
Before, he would have immediately taken advantage of such an obvious offer, but since this damn paralysis and….. he is really trying to turn his life around.

Ouch! He really hates letting others down. It makes him feel like a bad person.

To focus on something more work-related, he turns to Brant Hecking, a coach with long experience in sports coaching.

“Well Don, you’re still a womanizer I see. Always on your true mission?” Brant says laughing.

“Please Brant, that’s not what I’m trying to do.” Don says dismissively.

Don’s gaze follows Brant as he leaves the floor. Life must be so much easier for him. Don knows he is not into women.

Now he sees one of his regular trainees coming his way, but she clearly looks like she’s done for today.

“Hey Ciara! You look like you did a great job today.” he says appreciatively.

“Hi Don! Yeah, I’m on my way home.” she replies kindly.

As Ciara walks down to the dressing room, he looks up in Becca’s direction.

He can see her looking at him, seeking his eye contact.

Suddenly he notices that the engine of the old motor vehicle starts moving.

He better find another gym.

*****

Morning in Willow Creek

Andy looks up uneasily at his mother. He can sense that she is furious.

She didn’t seem present, sweet and smiling when she picked him up from the cot like she usually does. He shifts restlessly in his position.

Alice does not sense Andy’s worry at all. The nanny was supposed to come more than an hour ago and she has a book she needs to finish before deadline two days ahead.

“Damn you Allan!” she grumbles.

She puts Andy in the high chair without really looking at him.

Andy searches her gaze questioningly. Maybe he can make her happy with a smile? She doesn’t see him.

Andy is almost startled when his mother suddenly speaks to him

“Don’t turn down the food, Andy. I know you like rice porridge.”

Andy loves rice porridge and finally they exchange the smile he has been missing.

“You are such a gentle boy.” She says softly.

*****

The good mood doesn’t last forever. The rice porridge is eaten and Andy has certain autonomous functions that cannot be suppressed.

Alice looks annoyed at the front door. When is the nanny coming? She doesn’t have time for this and Allan promised her the necessary staffing while he is gone.

She sets Andy down on the floor and grimaces in annoyance at the scent drifting from him.

“Mommy has to make a phone call.” she says.

Andy crawls away from her to find some toys.

Annoyed, she calls the babysitter’s office and asks for an explanation.

There seems to have been a misunderstanding and they promise to send a temporary nanny immediately.

She sits down in front of the computer and sulks. She should file a complaint. Temporary nanny? What the hell is that supposed to mean? Andy needs to be looked after by a nanny he knows well and is comfortable with. Someone who understands his needs….

Again she sends Allan an angry thought.

Only now does she hear Andy crying. She realizes that she has forgotten all about his dirty diaper while she has been consumed with anger at the failure of her surroundings.

*****

“I’m so sorry baby boy. I know I’m a bad mother… You’re such a patient and gentle little boy… You don’t deserve me.” she hums gently.

Andy babbles contentedly in response, unable to decipher anything but the soft tone of voice.

Alice once again feels her anger as she walks towards the living room and is reminded of the missing nanny.

She puts Andy on the floor and walks towards the toy box.

“Look Andy! Mom has some toys for you.”

Andy curiously accepts the toy figure and Alice can finally start writing on her novel.

*****

She is still thinking about how to get started when a strange man suddenly appears in the living room.

“Who are you!?” she shouts in alarm.

Now the familiar nanny suddenly enters the living room.

“Hi Alice, I’m sorry for the misunderstanding. I’ve brought a trainee. His name is Michael.” she says.

The familiar nanny immediately goes to Andy. Alice looks at Michael with hardly hidden irony.

“Well Michael, since you have a support teacher with you, I think two nannies together can handle one little boy. I’ll go for a walk and gather some inspiration while the three of you enjoy yourselves.” she says.

Oasis Springs

Don has given up on his decision to seek out another gym. Instead, he has gone home to his lodgings.

Valentino is having lunch and Don gratefully follows his invitation to take a portion with him.

Since he never had time to eat breakfast, he quickly starts eating.

He can sense that Valentino is watching him.

“This dish is really delicious. You are an excellent cook Valentino.” he says.

“Thanks Don! You’re a very polite young man….You seem to be home early. Didn’t you find any willing trainees today?” he says.

“Yeah, sort of, but…” Don says hesitantly, avoiding Valentino’s probing gaze.”

“I sense a secret there, but don’t worry young man. You owe me no answers.” says Valentino quickly.

Strangely enough, Don gets the feeling that, contrary to what he says, Valentino is investigating him.

“Thanks for the meal, I’ll do the dishes.” Don replies, standing up.

Valentino stays seated while Don collects the dirty dishes.

“Thank you, Don. I can see you’ve learned good manners.” he says appreciatively.

*****

Valentino is still sitting at the table as Don finishes washing the dishes.

His eyes follow him as he disappears into the bathroom to take a shower.

Don seems very rootless, but he’s starting to understand what Delphine finds so attractive about him.

There is a good core hidden beneath his superficial seductive body. A man who deserves to come out into the light.

*****

Windenburg Olde Plats district

Alice’s walk has taken her all the way to the Old Quarter Inn in Windenburg. She is still inflamed with pent-up frustration and it makes it impossible for her to concentrate on her book.

She goes into the inn to order a drink.

She didn’t ask to be in this situation. She is not made to live alone. She has certain needs and Allan should know this when he signed up for the foolish mission.

She continues to send Allan angry thoughts as the bartender mixes her drink.

She takes a hearty gulp of the gloriously sweet strong drink and lets the alcohol numb her agitated mind.

When the drink is consumed her dark thoughts begin to evaporate like a cloud under the bright light of the sun.

“Let me get another one!” she says, sending the bartender a sweet smile.

More guests begin to arrive at the bar, but so far there is only her and the blessed drink in the room.

She closes her eyes and enjoys the sensation of pure pleasure.

What a sweet magical potion…

Only now does she begin to notice there are other people in the room.
To her left sits a guy, completely purple in skin, dressed in a strange suit. What a strange disguise.

She cheerfully asks him if he’s a cosplayer at the Geekcon festival.

He doesn’t seem to understand her question.

*****

Afternoon in Oasis Springs

When Don comes out of the bathroom, he sees Valentino in the living room, playing a guitar.

He curiously walks closer to listen to the music.

He stands for a moment and lets the music envelope him with mellowness.

There is something about the beautiful acoustic Spanish notes that reminds him of Katrina at her piano.

When he once again feels the engine’s cogs start to creak, he continues without a trace.

Valentino does not allow himself to be disturbed, but continues to indulge in his finger-playing.

Don wants to take a walk to take in the new neighborhood.

He stands for a moment, surveying the dry surroundings. Although he is still in Oasis Springs, The Bedrock Strait district is very different from the green areas of Skyward Palms.

He considers for a brief moment to seek out Eva, then he quickly puts the thought out of his head and scouts around the terrain. There must be other ways of distracting oneself.

*****

Afternoon in Windenburg

If Dons has had any nostalgic thoughts about Katrina, then I have to disappoint him that he is far away from her mind right now.

Katrine has been invited on a date at the old inn The Shrieking Llama.

She has met Sam once before at the Humor and Hijinks Festival in San Myshuno.
It’s a day she looks back on with mixed feelings because Don had rejected them having a child.

She wasn’t in a very festive mood when Sam found her and took her to a club night at The Narwhal Arms. The rest of the evening is drowned in alcohol fog.

“I’m quite curious how you found me?” she asks.

“I’m a craftsman and I get around in many districts. Everywhere I’ve been asking for a beautiful woman with green eyes and thick red hair, until someone pointed in your direction.”

“You flatter me, Sam. They might have been pointing at my daughter.” she giggles.

“Actually someone did, but she doesn’t have your mature beauty” he replies with a wink…..

“I can’t understand you don’t have a man?” he adds.

“Well, I had in a way, until recently, but he was definitely not faithful. I think he’s seduced every woman within a hundred miles.” Katrina says bitterly.

Sam lets out a startled gasp.

Now, I’m not going to pretend to be an expert on dating, but starting out by putting down your previous lover doesn’t seem very smart. However, Katrina continues her accusations unable to control herself.

On the other hand, she seems to receive Sam’s full empathy. He actually looks somewhat shocked as he wordlessly listens to what she has to say.

“Katrina, I’d say you’ve been treated horribly. You absolutely don’t deserve that and I hope it hasn’t destroyed your trust in men.” he says.

*****

Windenburg at the Bluffs

Not far from The Shrieking Llama, Elijah has invited Fatima on a date in a well-hidden nature area at the Bluffs.

“Elijah, you surprise me. What kind of place is this?” Fatima asks smiling.

“A secret place my love where we can definitely be at peace from your previous roommates…. Did you remember your swimwear ?” he says and strokes her cheek.

Elijah leads the way in fast running.

“Please Elijah! I don’t have footwear for this pace.” she shouts.

“We should get you some running shoes.” he shouts over his shoulder.

*****

A little later, the type of footwear is an irrelevant fact, as they are both immersed in a pool of solar-heated water.

“Did you really remember swimwear? I don’t think I can spot any covering clothing. Maybe I should give it a closer look.” Elijah says teasingly.

“Elias! You always seem to have naughty thoughts.” Fatima says blushing.

“When it comes to you, yes.” he says.

She looks up and is caught by the glint in his magnetic dark eyes.

He is the most handsome man she has ever met and she can hardly believe that they are getting married very soon.

She swims over to him to give him a kiss, giving him an opportunity to check if she really is wearing a bathing suit.

All of a sudden they get busy swimming towards the shore of the pole.

“Well, I guess you could call that little nothing a bathing suit.” says Elijah.

You should now expect them to quickly disappear into a bush like other lit Sims, but don’t count on it.

The thought of the stiff unwelcome branches of the bushes sends them in another direction.

One gets a strong suspicion that a wicked indecent act is brewing, so we must move on quickly.

In Ambrosius’s absence, another creature captures the camera’s lens.

Now, dear readers, it is definitely time for us to move on.

*****

The Shrieking Llama

At the inn, it seems that Sam is in the process of preventing Katrina from telling more about her previous lover’s misdeeds.

Katrina’s cheeks are noticeably flaring. It seems that someone has turned up the heat in the room.

Sam looks at her with a smug smile, like a craftsman contemplating a successful work.

“You seem like a very sensitive woman. I’m sure I can make your blood boil.” he says without shame.

“You do indeed think high thoughts of yourself.” she says, not too dismissively.

“You could give it a try.” he says, throwing out his arms.

“Gosh Sam! That really doesn’t sound appropriate for a first date.” she says.

“Sorry Katrina, I didn’t mean to embarrass you…you’re just…I’ve been thinking about you for weeks.” Sam apologizes.

Katrina just giggles blushing in response.

“It’s terribly hot in the room, maybe we should go for a walk.” she says.

“Well, if that’s what you want.” Sam replies.

They won’t go very far….

*****

Their short walk has ended in one of the inn’s vacant rooms on the first floor. They have taken off some of the overly warm clothes.

Strangely enough, it does not seem to lower their body temperature significantly.

“You are gorgeous, Katrina.” Sam whispers, holding her tight.

Who will be able to resist such a compelling worshipper?

Katrina ends up in a playful fight on the sheet with no reminiscence of the sparkling experiences with Don. However, there seems to be promising fertile ground for lots of development.

When she hears Sam’s heavy breathing, she quietly slips out of bed.

She stands looking at her worshiper. He sleeps with the same relaxed tranquility as a safe child.

He seems like a fairly ordinary man, but perhaps the watcher has found the answer to her dreams after all.

*****

Evening at the Bluffs

We find another amorous pair, in decent clothing, on the bench with an enchantingly beautiful sunset behind them.

However, they don’t seem to care about the world around them

Elijah wipes….

Fatima giggles, blushing. One would like to know what their shared world looks like…?

On the other hand, I’m not sure I dare. It is highly likely not suitable for respectable readers.

I will therefore once again direct the readers’ gaze towards the sky, the sea and the green landscape. It is breathtaking beautiful.

It looks like Nessie is still trying to get Fatima and Elijah’s attention.

Even at the watcher’s request, they refuse to change their position.

It must be admitted that the view in their direction has its own beauty.

However, they seem to only want to explore each other’s eyes.

Nessie swims home to her unknown lodgings while the readers can enjoy the last rays of the sun.

Soon the moon will rise in the night sky. Will they ever know?

*****

Evening in Brindleton Bay

Martin is still at a soccer match. Tusnelda has put on running gear. She is about to run down the beach when her eyes catch a familiar figure in the tunnel.

The stray dog is back.

The joy of reunion is really great. If Tusnelda had to decide it alone, she would take Sasha into their family, but on that point she and Martin will never agree.

They embrace each other like two friends meeting each other after a long absence. Maybe that’s exactly what’s going on.

Tusnelda gives a treat to Sasha.

“I’m sorry honey, but I need to keep running.” she says in farewell.

In a way, the physical activity helps her to let go of the heavy thoughts. That’s probably what Martin is always talking about.

On the other hand, it has been a good day. She is happy that she was able to talk to Martin. She has been thinking a lot about him.

*****

Hindquarter Hideaway in Brindleton bay

Fabio is bent over his homework. Futte jumps up on the table to get attention.

His mother already went to bed an hour ago. She is at the end of her third trimester which makes her quite exhausted.

Rasmus is preparing their evening meal.

Fortunately, Fabio can soon put his homework aside to play with Futte.

Then there is a knock on the door. It’s a new friend Fabio has made at school,

“Jayden! wanna come in?” Fabio asks excitedly.

Since they are both active boys, they quickly agree to play basketball instead.

*****

Rasmus has finished dinner and Jayden is invited to the meal.

As usual, Fabio frowns at the vegetarian serving, but Jayden eats with good appetite.

“Brooke, will you please leave the table!” scolds Izumi.

Rasmus is carrying his plate to the dishes when he spots Fie out of the corner of his eye.

“Fie! shame on you, you don’t eat human food.” he scolds.

Fie looks at him with wide wondering eyes.

Rasmus is a cat lover and he feels a guilty conscience. Imagine if he had to chew on dry cat pills every day?

He wants to make a decent meal for the cats.

Jayden looks at Izumi inquisitively. He finds it quite strange that she is sitting at the table in her underwear.

No one in the family seems to take offense at her lack of dress.

“I’m going to bed again Rasmus.” she says.

“It’s all right my dear. I’ll finish the cat food and tuck Fabio when it’s his bedtime.” says Rasmus

“Fabio, what’s wrong with your mother?” Jayden asks.

“My mom is having a baby Jayden and I think she’s outgrown all her clothes.”

Ramus has served a delicious homemade cat delicacy for Fie, but she refuses to share with Futte. It looks like Futte has now got a depression.

Rasmus gets ready to make a delicacy for Futte.

Izumi goes to bed. This time with some nightwear on.

She can’t stand sitting for very long and when she lies down she quickly gets up again due to pain in her back. The last part of pregnancy is just uncomfortable.

Fie growls at Brooke who has been attracted by the smell of fresh food.

Brooke wails loudly at the injustice.

While Rasmus struggles to meet the needs of the jealous cats, Fabio and Jayden become best friends.

Fabio and Jayden seem like they could talk forever.

Rasmus starts on his third portion of cat delicacy for tonight.

Now Jayden says he has to go home.

Looks like Fie and Brooke are best friends again and Brooke has forgotten all about the food.

Goodbye Jayden.

Rasmus cuts ingredients as if he were participating in a cooking competition. At least he finally achieves his daily goal when it comes to the daily tasks in the chef’s career.

*****

Down by the beach, the full moon will soon be right up in the night sky, which gives us all an idea of the time. Tusnelda heads home.

Fabio looks at Futte who is eating with great gusto while Rasmus continues working.

Futte has eaten the whole delicious meal and howls loudly. Please Futte, all good things come to an end.

*****

Evening in the Old Quarter Inn in Windenburg

Alice has spent several hours at the inn. After another drink her mood has lifted and she has started talking to the bar’s other customers.

Suddenly there is a strange sound like “Ka-booosh!”

She looks up at the ceiling, startled…

“Sorry, but it sounds like a sound came from the roof structure. Are you sure it’s durable?” she asks the bartender.

Her attention is caught by a guy who waves at her.

“Hello beautiful girl. I have to take responsibility for the sound. I’m a magician…just practicing a trick or two.” he says.

“A magician? That sounds fun. Want to show off one of your tricks?” says Alice effusively. She is maybe under the influence of 3-4 drinks. She forgot to count them.

“By the way, I love your circus jacket. Do you work in a circus?” continues Alice excitedly.

“Well, I will confirm that.” he replies.

Alice gets up when an insistent hum from her mobile tells her there is a call.

“Looks like you found your prey tonight, Masato.” says a woman to Masato (She’s definitely a vampire too)

“I would love to hear more about your circus but first I have to take a call.” apologizes Alice.

“That’s fine. The night is still young.” the guy says kindly

There is something exciting and alluring about the guy that makes Alice follow him with her eyes.

The call was not as expected from the nanny.

“Hey Allan! Yes I’m fine…..Andy is sleeping like an angel…..

“Oh, the noise….I’m watching Friends, should I turn it down? …..Hm….It’s fine Allan. May you sleep well, too.”

“I’m impressed with how easily you lie. Was it your husband?” the magician says appreciatively.

“I don’t see that it’s your business and I don’t like that you’re snooping on my private conversation.” Alice says dismissively.

It looks like Masato is now squandering his only chance for a bigger role in this story, and surely he won’t be getting his prey quite as easily as first thought. We will have to see how the evening develops later.

****

Late night in Brindleton Bay

Fabio look at Rasmus. It’s way past his bedtime and Rasmus is still messing around making cat food de lux.

Brooke stands expectantly and follows Rasmus’ progress. She is the only cat in the pack who has not yet been served this delicacy.

“I’ll be there right away Fabio. I just need the final preparation.” excuses Rasmus. This project is far more extensive than he thought.

“I’m tired Rasmus. I think I’ll go to bed myself if you check on me when you’re done.” Fabio suggests sensibly.

*****

Fabio is on his way to his room when he sees a figure outside the front door.

He turns to the door. He recognizes the red t-shirt.

“Don you’re back!” Fabio cheers loudly.

“Hey Kiddo! Good to see you.” Don replies before they hug each other.

“Have you come to stay with us again?” Fabio asks hopefully.

“I’m staying with a nice elderly man. He says I can stay as long as I want.” Don says.

Oh!? How sad.” says Fabio disappointed

*****

They sit on the couch together. Don wonders about Rasmus and Izumi’s absence.

“So how are you kiddo?” He asks kindly.

“I’ve got a new friend at school. His name is Jayden.” says Fabio.

“That’s great Fabio. You need friends your own age.”

Now they can hear Rasmus coming into the room from the bathroom. Don gives Fabio a knowing wink.

Don looks at his friend. He looks exhausted and a little distant. Normally they would greet each other with a hug. This gives Don a slightly uneasy feeling.

Fabio interrupts his train of thought by asking if he wants to put him to bed.

“Of course Fabio. Shall we wipe out that monster together so you can get a good night’s sleep.” Don says caringly.

“There is no such thing as a monster.” says Fabio with an indulgent smile.

Don feels like he has been gone forever. Since when has the monster vanished from Fabio’s life?

When Don closes the quilt around Fabio, he feels a warmth fill his heart. He has really missed this little guy.

Late night in San Myshuno

Fatima and Elijah have finally landed in the hall in front of their apartment. They look like they haven’t let go of each other since we left them at the Bluffs.

Here, shortly before their wedding, their infatuation peaks with all-consuming force.

Fatima feels Elijah’s strong arms lift her with an ease as if she has no significant weight.

She has stopped protesting, safe in the knowledge that he will not lose her.

They rush into the apartment.

Their clothes fall off faster than you can count to ten.

Of course, I don’t want to cheat the readers for some beautiful pink sparks.

Late night in Brindleton bay

Martin is received by Trix when he comes home from his soccer match.

Martin puts Trix back in the grass and says he will go inside to find Tusnelda.

“Tusnelda has left home.” Trix replies with an insistent Meow.

“What’s up Trix, are you hungry?” Martin asks kindly.

That’s how ignorant humans are.

At the same time, Tusnelda comes walking home from the beach.

“Hi Sweetie, how are you?” Martin asks.

“I’ve been thinking about you all day. We should go to bed now.” she says, taking his hands.

“Like now?” he asks in surprise.

“Now Martin. We need to close that gap.” she replies.

*****

He’s actually not quite sure he has the energy. He is sweaty and tired but she seems so determined.

He often has difficulty following what is going on inside her.

But here they go…..

She tries to let go of all expectations of what might or might not happen. Just enjoy his presence.

In a way, she feels more relaxed than she has in a long time and she leans back into the pillow with a smile.

Martin snuggles up to her and whispers a thank you in her ear.

“Martin, are you awake? My arm is sleeping.” she whispers a little later.

He gives a grunt in response and rolls over on the other side of the bed.

She snuggles close to him to listen to his relaxing breathing and soon they are both fast asleep.

Late night in the Old Quarter Inn in Windenburg

The noise level in the bar is gradually deafening. There is a sport on TV and the many loud voices trying to drown each other out.

Alice has turned her back on the weird magician in the blue jacket and she tries to talk to another guy at the bar.

To her left sits a young fellow with a cap.

“You seem pretty normal.” she says, to the guy’s surprise.

“Let me order one last drink, the house special and something to satisfy my hunger.” she says to the bartender.

The bartender is still mixing her drink when the magician chooses to leave the room in a puff of black smoke.

Her sidekick jumps backwards out of the barstool with a startled outburst and Alice squeals loudly.

The empty bar stool is immediately taken over by another guy in a pink jacket. She looks back at the cap guy and he sends her a wink.

“Hey, I hope he didn’t scare you? The night is full of weirdos like him,” he says.

She takes her glass and moves closer to him, away from the bar.

“Sorry, what did you say?” she asks

All around them, loud voices are heard, drowning out any opportunity for conversation. He invites her to follow him with a gesture of his arm.

Smiling, she approaches the guy standing in a corner behind the bar. He seems pretty normal and like a nice guy.

She is determined not to do anything to be ashamed of. She’s only want to give herself some relaxed space, have a couple of drinks and talk to some people.

“Hi, I’m Matthias, but you can call me Matt. You seem like a fun girl, what did you say your name was?” he asks.

“Hi Matt, I’m Blue,” she says.

Late night in Brindleton Bay

When Fabio is asleep, Don returns to the living room. Izumi has once again gotten out of bed and now she and Rasmus are talking together .

Don considers whether he should go back to Oasis Springs.

“Hi Don, we are just talking about you.” says Rasmus.

Don sends Rasmus an inquisitive look. The atmosphere between them was perhaps getting a little tense when he was living with them.

“We’re talking about whether you want to move in and look after Fabio when I give birth.” Izumi interjects.

“Well, yes of course. I’ll look forward to that.” Don replies, relieved that his and Rasmus’ friendship is still completely intact.

“I’m so glad, Don. You seem to have a special place in his heart. He speaks highly of you.” says Rasmus.

“Thank you Rasmus, I will admit he seems like a special kid to me.” Don says.

“Yes, I think he is.” says Rasmus seriously.

*****

When Don has to leave, Rasmus gives him a warm hug.

“You just call Rasmus, day or night and I’ll be with Fabio.” Don says, relieved to have his friend back.

After that he leaves.

For Don, life is in total change, so how could he be sure?

Izumi sends Rasmus a tired smile. She looks exhausted.

“Izumi, I think we have everything planned and we are safe and ready for the birth to begin.” says Rasmus.

“Unfortunately, I can’t control it, but I want it to be over soon.” Izumi says with a smile.

Rasmus sees her going into the bedroom. He’s not sure how he can relieve her.

*****

When he reaches the bed a little later, she is already asleep.

All he knows is that he loves her.

Late night in San Myshuno

Fatima is fast asleep, but Elijah can’t allow himself to sleep yet.

He watches Ambrosius inspect the bedroom to find a good place to sleep for the night.

He should get dressed and get going.

Elijah walks towards the kitchen wearing some casual clothes.

Ambrosius strolls curiously after him, but changes his mind when he spots an empty sofa.

Elijah finds the ingredients for cake cream and icing.

It was a task they should have completed this afternoon, but the spontaneous date at The Bluffs developed beyond what he had thought.

Not that he feels any regret. Absolutely not.

The cake has been finished for a few days and developed its flavors in the fridge.

Now only the final finishing touches are needed…

*****

Elijah contemplates the finished result. It is disappointing boring, not very festive, but it’s too late to change it.

The top figure has been bought in advance and it might give it the final touch.

It’s well past midnight. He has become hungry and grabs a quick meal on the couch.

Beside him lies Ambrosius, fast asleep. Too lazy to lift an eyelid and show even the slightest crack to an eye.

Now it is also time for Elijah to find some rest. They have a long night ahead of them tomorrow.

He quickly slips under the blanket to Fatima.

She immediately snuggles up to him. May they be like this forever.

Midnight in Willow Creek

The whole town is asleep when Alice finally returns home.

To her surprise, Andy is sitting exactly where she left him. The television is on.

The nanny-trainee sits on the sofa and looks at the screen.

“You can go home now, Michael. I’ll take over from here…. Where’s the real nanny?” Alice asks.

“She went home several hours ago. It’s almost three o’clock. This is going to cost you overtime pay.” says Michael grumpily.

*****

When Alice has sent Michael out the door, she picks Andy up in her arms.

In her slightly tipsy state, she throws him high into the air.

Andy lets out a startled yelp and widens his eyes.

“Mommy loves you, baby boy.” she says, giving him a kiss on the forehead.

“You’re such a gentle and kind little boy. Just like your daddy.” she hums as Andy sucks on the baby bottle.

It is not often that she thinks about Rasmus anymore, but in Allan’s absence she thinks all sorts of thoughts.

“I wish you could stay like this forever.” she says, holding Andy close until he burps.

****

Alice carries Andy into the nursery.

Andy cries loudly when he is put in the cot. He loves that his mother is finally holding him in her arms and it feels like he is being abandoned.

However, he is not completely abandoned as Alice brings her food into the rocking chair as usual.

Andy still protests for a few minutes, then falls asleep.

He is exhausted after a long night without enough sleep.

Alice listens to Andy’s deep breathing as she thinks about the strange fates she has encountered this evening. She really needed this night out with a few drinks.

Then she thinks of Matt. She feels a tickling sensation and a blush rise up her cheeks. It’s been a long time since she last felt alive like tonight.

She gets up quickly and goes into her bedroom. The double bed feels starkly empty in Allan’s absence, but she is fine.

Andy lies in his cot and sleeps soundly. Completely ignorant of the choices and opt-outs of adulthood.

Life is safe and good as long as he has someone who loves him and takes care of his needs. It is as simple as that.

Here some music that somehow fits well with today’s theme as it developed. Enjoy 💖

When Alice calls herself Blue, we know trouble is brewing! (or is that blueing?) I really enjoyed this! I sure want that black dog to get adopted soon!

  • SirianaSims

Oh no, the return of Blue! I hope she doesn’t do anything too terrible. I’m glad that Tusnelda and Martin are back on the same page, they’re strongest together. And there is still hope for Don! ❤️

Tusnelda and Martin are sure strong together. Regardless of their different approaches to life, their mutual respect and love is the glue in their relationship.

Don tries to rearrange his life. There is definitely hope, but I imagine he comes from a rootless background and lacks healthy role models for what relationships entail. It gives me inspiration to investigate his background, but that will have to be in another story 😅

Alice is a vibrant woman. She needs to feel that she is alive and her current isolation is not sustainable in the long run, even if she tries. As long as she calls herself Blue, it’s not really her, is it? This is something she will have to face 🤔

Thank you for your comment ❤️
