91. Better days
Dear readers, I am finally back with a new chapter. After a longer break, I used to have a tradition of sending a summer greeting, but all of a sudden I hit inspiration, so why not jump right into the story? In the last chapter, several characters faced some life-changing changes. Not least Tusnelda and Martin struggled to deal with the grief over the lost child. This chapter may contain issues that may seem painful or disturbing, but I can assure you that neither animals nor Sims are harmed. I’m glad to be back.

Morning in Brindleton Bay, Dachshund’s Creek
During her recovery, Tusnelda has made it a regular morning routine to run along the beach.
The neighborhood Cavalier Cove has some of the most beautiful beach meadows and the run along the water is healing for both body and soul.
When it comes to running, it seems that Martin has drawn the shortest straw, but his need to control results means that he often prefers the treadmill.
On the way, Tusnelda passes a cat that is clearly sick, but unfortunately there is not much she can do about it right now, so she runs on.
The beach meadow is a favorite haunt for stray dogs and cats and unfortunately they are often affected by diseases.
Occasionally some of them are lucky enough to meet a human who will adopt them and ensure their health and safety, but Tusnelda’s household already contains four cats.
*****
At home, Tusnelda sits down at the chessboard. She is not fully concentrated on the board as she lets her thoughts flow.
It’s been a long time since she met the dog Sasha, so she hopes that means she’s got a good family. She is a really sweet dog.
Martin has abandoned the treadmill in favor of the computer. He has to play a match today and he is making some preparations by watching the opposing team.
Shortly after, he is on his way to the soccer stadium.
Tusnelda finds leftover food in the fridge. She is off work but she has an appointment in San Myshuno today.
She quickly loads the dishwasher and goes into the bathroom to take a quick shower.

Morning in San Myshuno Arts Quarter
The sky above San Myshuno is gray with heavy clouds. In front of us we see the Casbah Gallery and the Medina Studios building.
On the top floor in 930 Medina Studios, Marcus has his private fertility clinic. One sees the outline of Fatima behind the windows, engaged in her morning routine.
“Good morning Marcus. I can see in your calendar that today’s first Client is Tusnelda Andersen for a follow-up consultation.
Subsequently, it looks like you have set aside the day for some writing?”
“Well, yes, I’m writing an article for the Medical Journal of Today, regarding my theories about Gen Z’s increasing reproductive problems.” Marcus says a little absently.
“I see… I also hope you will find time to write a job advertisement for a new secretary?” says Fatima.
Marcus doesn’t seem to be listening. He is already far away in his article writing.
“Would you like me to take care of the announcement?” continues Fatima to Marcus absent mind.
“Damn it Marcus! This is serious! At the end of this month my employment ends and how will you manage without a secretary?” Fatima says in an urgent voice.
“I guess I can read my own calendar Fatima…..However, don’t you think there’s an option for you to continue your job? I mean you don’t have far to work. You have moved to the other side of the hall so the distance shouldn’t be a problem.” Marcus says.
“That’s completely out of the question. You’d better get your act together and write that ad.” Fatima says grumpily and stands up.

Morning in Brindleton Bay, Hindquarter Hideaway
Fabio is about to be late for school and runs quickly past.
Rasmus is in the process of removing weeds from the herbs in the kitchen garden.
Izumi is sitting at the computer looking up some facts about natural birth.
She is in her third trimester and her increasing body weight gives her lower back pain.
Rasmus has just finished to weed the herbs and is summoned by Brooke’s wailing meow.
He bends down to give Brooke some of the attention she craves.
He listens to the purring sound with which she repays his care. They enjoy each other’s company for a while longer.
Izumi gently strokes her baby belly. There is only a short time left before…
She has to be checked by a midwife today, so she had better find Rasmus so that they can be on time.
*****
Morning in San Myshuno Private Clinic
Tusnelda arrives alone at the clinic. Revisiting the place affects her more than she expected, although she is in every way a better place mentally.
She has just arrived when a young woman is leaving the consultation.
Although she shows no signs of pregnancy, Tusnelda has no doubts. It is as if she has expanded her senses and this woman emits a special scent.
She gives a deep sigh and pulls herself together before turning to the sweet secretary at the front desk.
“I have an appointment with Doctor Flex at ten o’clock.”
“Welcome Mrs. Andersen! How are you? I don’t see Mr. Andersen. I hope everything is going well between you.” says the secretary with a big welcoming smile.
Tusnelda likes the secretary’s straightforward, warm-hearted manner, so she answers back with a big smile.
“It’s going well. Martin has been a great support and we’ve put the past completely behind us.” says Tusnelda smiling.
The secretary looks at Tusnelda with a direct searching look and Tusnelda feels her heart beating fast.
I’m really glad to hear that Mrs. Andersen. You can enter Doctor Flex’s consultation now. He is ready to receive you.”
Tusnelda turns half a turn and walks the few steps to the consultation at the other end of the corridor.

Willow Creek Public Hospital
Izumi and Rasmus have arrived at the hospital on the edge of Willow Creek. Here they are welcomed by a woman in a pink smock.
“What an impressive baby bump. You look like you’re ready to pop any minute.” says she.
“Let me introduce myself. I’m Deborah, the midwife at this hospital…I don’t think I recognize you from our birth preparation course?” says the midwife kindly.
“My name is Izumi. This is my second pregnancy so I’m pretty confident about what will happen. I actually didn’t know that birth preparation for a natural birth is an option here.”
Rasmus stands a little confused, unsure of what is expected of him.
He suddenly realizes that Izumi and the midwife have left, so he sets off after them at high speed.
Despite Izumi’s weight and clumsy gait, she walks with surprisingly fast speed.
Rasmus hurries to catch up with her and passes a doctor on the way. It turns out he is heading towards the same destination.
*****
San Myshuno Private Clinic
“After doing the medical examination, Mrs. Andersen, I would say that you are perfectly healed and healthy.”
“I’m glad to hear that Doctor Flex, so what do you think about my chances of getting pregnant.”
“Statistically, there is a possibility that it will happen soon, and if not, we have more opportunities to speed up the process at the hospital. I would say go for it and have fun.” the doctor replies, a little too boldly, with a wink.
“Well yes.” replies Tusnelda, blushing.
“What about the risk of miscarriage. What do your statistics say? Can you guarantee it won’t happen again?” says Tusnelda.
“Statistically, there is always a possibility of miscarriage.” says the doctor.
“But there must be ways to prevent that from happening. Scientific advances, medical treatments…. You see I can’t let my husband down like that again. I’m sure it will destroy him.” Tusnelda pleads in despair.
“Unfortunately I can’t give you such a guarantee.” says the doctor seriously.
“Oh, that’s a bugger.” Tusnelda says with a sad voice.
Marcus raises his head and sees Kristine, who has just entered the room to take part in the consultation.
“Kristine!” he exclaims with relief.
Only now does Tusnelda see the sweet doctor who gave her some fertility massages as a treatment for infertility. She sends her a cautious smile.
“Hi Tusnelda, I’m sorry to hear of your loss.” she says kindly.
“I will now leave you in Doctor Paulsen’s skilled hands. I am sure you will benefit from her treatment.” says doctor Flex confidently.
“Of course, that’s only if you agree…I can’t promise you miracles, but I think we can work with your mistrust in your own abilities.” says Kristine Paulsen kindly.
“Yeah, that’s ok.” Tusnelda answers cautiously.
She gets up to follow Doctor Kristine to the next room.
Marcus looks gratefully at Kristine as they go out the door. There is much about her alternative methods that he questions, but he has to acknowledge her for being good at creating trusting communication with patients.
Incidentally, the latter also applies to Fatima…. Maybe he should put up that job ad. He needs someone with her human qualities. Perhaps someone who is not as self righteous and nosy as Fatima.

Willow Creek Hospital
At the hospital, the midwife has just completed a preliminary examination.
“Everything looks really good, Izumi. My immediate estimate is that you will go into labor somewhere between a few weeks ore maybe days.”
Rasmus sits down on a stool, a little overwhelmed, while Izumi adjusts on the examination bench. The midwife said days!?
The midwife smears a gel-like mass over Izumi’s stomach and begins to search with the scanner.
She calmly explains what she sees.
“This is your uterus and here you can clearly see one foot,” she explains as she moves the scanner around over Izumi’s stomach.
Suddenly, an outline of a small person begins to emerge. Rasmus sees another foot and a small hand reaching out.
He gasps loudly, unable to fully digest what he sees.
They have asked the midwife not to reveal the gender in advance, and of course this secret also concerns the readers.
“What are you thinking Rasmus” Izumi asks smiling.
“Well this is pretty overwhelming. It seems like you’ve been pregnant for ages and now it’s coming to an end.” he says.
“It all looks so good and I think you can expect a natural birth without any problems.” says the midwife.
Izumi feels Rasmus takes her hand and she looks up at him questioningly.
His gaze seems a little flickering, but behind it she sees pure love. He will never let her down.

San Myshuno Private Clinic
Tusnelda lies on the massage table and feels how Dr. Kristine’s experienced hands work on her back.
The treatment seems recognizable, so Tusnelda falls into a doze.
She wakes up abruptly when the doctor calls her name.
“Tusnelda, the massage is over. We’ll have a conversation after you’ve got your clothes on.” she says in a soft voice.
*****
“I am sorry to hear of your loss. How have you and your husband been afterwards?” asks Doctor Kristine calmly.”
“I’m actually fine. I’m ready to start my job again. I’m actually longing for my job.” replies Tusnelda.
“That sounds great so you feel ready to face the world again?” the doctor asks her.
“I think science is an essential and important factor in our society. As a scientist, you can never allow yourself to present a result with an uncertain statistical fluctuation. It seems frivolous. You become aware of a problem and you solve it… There must be a method.” continues Tusnelda.
“I cannot contradict your arguments Tusnelda, but if I may ask you a personal question? Have you ever considered starting therapy?” asks Doctor Kristine.
Here we zoom out of Kristine’s consultation, so we don’t get to hear what Tusnelda replies.
In the next room, Marcus is still bent over his important theoretical article.
Tusnelda leaves the doctor’s consultation a little more confused than when she arrived. She has a feeling she gave a wrong answer, but science is clear facts, so what’s the problem?
Tusnelda sees a series of pictures of the clinic’s employees on the wall as she leaves. All these highly educated people and yet they can’t promise her a definite solution?
The secretary interrupts her smiling before she reaches the exit.
“I see you are ready to go, Mrs. Andersen. I hope you got a clarification and that you will soon have luck. Give my regards to your nice husband. I have you in my thoughts.” she says.
Tusnelda gives her a smile and mumbles a thank you.
Then she leaves the clinic. She has planned to meet up with Martin after her check-up. He should be waiting for her down in the square.
She wished he had been with her today, but she hadn’t foreseen why. It was just a simple medical checkup. She has a feeling that Martin is better at understanding what’s going on in a room.
She is angry at the incompetence of the doctors and it numbs her emotions so far.

Willow Creek Hospital
Rasmus asks the midwife what is expected of him during a birth. Whether he can do something wrong or stand in the way so that it becomes dangerous for Izumi.
“You seem like a really nice and empathetic man. Listen to your wife’s needs and wishes during the process and I’m sure you will be a great support.” says the midwife encouragingly.
“Thanks for the advice!” says Rasmus, smiling broadly at the unexpected declaration of confidence.
Izumi caresses her bulging baby belly as she listens to the midwife give Rasmus a recommendation for a book that might help him prepare.
He listens attentively to all her recommendations. Izumi realizes once again why she loves him.
Then he turns to her.
“There’s still some time until Fabio gets home from school. How about we go on a coffee date?” he asks.
“I would love to go on a date with you!” she replies.
*****
San Myshuno Arts Quarter
The gray clouds still hang heavy over the city when Tusnelda leaves the clinic.
She looks on her mobile phone for a message from Martin. They were supposed to meet right here in front of the Casbah Gallery.
She gives him a call to hear if he is late.
*****
He is already there. A few meters from where she stood. She feels the sun come through the clouds at his presence.
“How could I avoid seeing you?” she asks.
“Hey sweetie!” he exclaims brightly and gives her a kiss on the cheek.
“Would you like to go into the gallery or what do you say?” he asks her.
*****
The last time they were here, they never saw the part of the exhibition shown in the basement.
Now they stand side by side and look at some pictures of foam-spraying wave tops.
There are several images of sea and clouds, followed by images of a woman in a red corset.
At the end of the room is a large aquarium and a camera.
Martin doesn’t understand a bit. What does this have to do with Aphrodite?
Tusnelda is still engrossed in the photos of waves when Martin calls her.
He has finally figured it out. The camera is there to invite the viewer to photograph one’s personal Aphrodite. In his case it means Tusnelda.
Tusnelda blows him a flirty kiss and he is so happy to see that side of her endearing personality again after a long absence. She has been very low mentally for a long time.
They leave the basement floor to look at some paintings. It is a form of art that better suits Martin’s expectations.
*****
The Hare and Hedgehog Cafe in Windenburg
Rasmus and Izumi have just arrived at the Hare and Hedgehog Cafe.
It’s pretty cloudy here. Right now he actually forgot if the sky was visible at the hospital. There were more important things at stake.
Rasmus is quite cheerful after the midwife’s unexpected positive statement.
They enter the cafe to place their order.
A woman is about to place her order when they enter. There are not many customers so the wait should not be long.
The barista suddenly closes new orders when it is their turn. His shift is now over and they have to wait for a new barista to arrive.
Izumi feels uncomfortable so she wants to find a seat out in the open.
Rasmus tries to relieve her to the best of his ability, as a taste of his skills as a birth assistant.
“This is so nice Rasmus” she sighs.
“If you sit down, I’ll go in and see if a new barista has arrived at work.” says Rasmus.
“Actually, I’d prefer if we go home instead.” Izumi says.
He gives her a kiss so their very short date won’t be a complete failure.
*****
The Casbah Gallery in San Myshuno
Martin and Tusnelda have found a place at the bar in the gallery. A very friendly man introduces himself as Elijah and offers them a free drink.
“Did you enjoy the exhibition.” he asks welcomingly.
“There are certainly many exciting works of art in the gallery. I admire artists and their ability to interpret even everyday things into art. It must take a lot of imagination.” says Tusnelda.
“I don’t know how much imagination it takes to put fish in a fish tank.” interjects Martin.
“It sounds like you’ve seen the exhibition ‘Aphrodite – Myth or Reality’? Are you familiar with the myth?” Elijah asks kindly.
“I am and I really don’t understand what the artist is trying to say. I understand that fish and the photographs allude to the sea, but honestly is this art?” continues Martin.
“I mean, we have an aquarium and photographs on the wall, but that doesn’t make our home an art gallery, does it?” Martin insists.
“Well, when you interpret it that way, I assume it must be no.” Elijah says disappointed.
Shortly after, Elijah says a friendly goodbye and leaves the bar.
Tusnelda sends Martin a look…
“What Tusnelda? Did I do something wrong?” Martin asks.
“You were a little hard on him. I actually got the impression he’s the artist behind the exhibit. Why else would he give us free drinks?”
“I didn’t figure that one out, but honestly Tusnelda…aquariums and photographs?” he says.
When it comes down to it, Tusnelda might not be so bad at reading what is going on in a room, as long as her thinking is not preoccupied with her own agenda.
Elijah leaves The Casbah Gallery with his usual confident gait. It takes more to ruin his day because today he and Fatima have officially moved together. It must be celebrated.

Afternoon in Brindleton Bay
Fabio has come home from school and has just turned on the TV. He watches the introduction to a new music program.
He loves what he sees. This music group looks so cool. He wishes he could play guitar like them…Or be a drummer. If only he could get a drum kit like that.
A rock star appears on the screen. He’s cool…maybe he can learn to sing like him. However, his voice is far too thin and boyish… He should probably stick with the instruments.
He hears the front door open. It is probably Rasmus and his mother who come home.
Rasmus continues straight into the kitchen to make dinner.
The camera zooms to the rock star kissing a girl…ugh, it’s disgusting! All channels are constantly filled with that love nonsense. Why when they can show other fun stuff?
Fortunately, the rock star is getting better thoughts.
“What are you seeing?” he hears his mother’s voice.
He gets up to give her a hug.
She moans heavily as she gives him a warm loving hug. She has grown so much but still feels like his sweet mom.
They sit down together to watch the music program.
“Mom, when I grow up I want to be a rock star. Play electric guitar or be a drummer. That’s so cool!”
“It takes practice Fabio. Lots of practice. Right now it’s not an option for kids to play guitar or play drums. Maybe you can play guitar when you’re a teenager. Develop your talent while you’re in high school.”
“Can I get guitar lessons in high school?” Fabio asks with interest.
“I assume you can get music lessons, but it requires that your grades are good enough to be admitted to high school…”
“Which reminds me. Do you have any homework for today?”
“I have some reading and history.” Fabio says sullenly, disappointed that the light mood is gone. Sometimes his mother can be a bit too parentish.
Rasmus has finished the evening meal and he takes a portion and sits down on the sofa with his family. Izumi goes to get some food.
He hears her sigh heavily. He wonders if everything is ok. Has she started giving birth?
“I will definitely get much stronger signs that I’m going into labor, Rasmus. You can be sure of that. It’s just this baby bump, it’s getting heavy to carry around.”
“If we have a son Izumi, do you think he will inherit some of my trait?” he says, placing a hand on her bulging baby belly.
“I’m quite sure he will inherit some of your qualities. He will surely be as gentle and loving as you.” she smiles.
Suddenly he tears himself free and walks towards the sofa.
“What’s going on?” she asks in surprise.
“We can’t forget about Fabio. We can’t let him struggle with his homework all by himself, can we?” he says.
“Five simoleons for your thoughts.” laughs Izumi at Rasmus, who is sitting and staring straight into the air.
“He could inherit my cheesy hair or my hot temper.” says Rasmus.
They sit together in silence next to each other, each busy with their own tasks. A small close family that will grow larger in the near future.

Afternoon in Willow Creek
Andy has just woken up from a short nap and his nanny carries him into the living room.
“Look I have food for you Andy. Rice porridge that you love.”
Andy greedily reaches for the food. Rice porridge is his favorite.
After eating the food, he points with his arm and talks eagerly to Nanny with his infant vocabulary. “Baa, baa, boo!”
“What Andy? Shall we play hide and seek?”
Nanny hides her face behind her hands and when she removes it after a while she says boo.
It usually amuses infants but Andy just looks at her seriously like he’s trying to understand what his role is in this game?
“What a serious little fellow you are.” says Nanny.
“Maybe you want to play with your toys on the floor?” Nanny asks.
Andy listens intently.
Then he sends Nanny a smile. She is on the right track.
*****
When he is dressed, Nanny puts him on the floor. He eagerly crawls forward towards the dollhouse.
Then he spots some stacking blocks to the left and changes course.
He grabs a block and looks at it inquisitively from all sides.
Then he examines it with his mouth. The sense of form and texture is stored as an experience in his brain for future use.
*****
Andy is still busy with his research when his mother comes home.
She gives the nanny a warm hug. She is very grateful for her calmness and help during Allan’s mission far from home. She hasn’t seen him in weeks now.
The nanny carries Andy to his bed.
Andy cries in annoyance. He doesn’t want Nanny anymore today. He wants his mother.
Alice takes her food into the rocking chair in the children’s room. She has had a long day at work.
Andy calms down and lies in bed babbling as he tries to tear off his one sock. He is an unusually confident and calm child.
Andy falls asleep before Alice finishes her food.
She stays seated while she finishes eating. Looking at her sleeping child and letting her thoughts fall on Allan. She wonders what he’s doing right now? She misses him.
She goes to the kitchen sink with her dirty dishes.
The nanny goes home and she sits down at her computer.
At night she is alone, but the silence does not disturb her. She is writing a book. She is doing well.
*****
Early evening in Brindleton Bay.
Tusnelda and Martin have reached home and now they are talking about Tusnelda’s sad painting.
“What does that picture mean to you? Do you still see a crying child?” Martin asks.
“Today I would say it is an angry child who sits in the sandbox and throws sand everywhere.” says Tusnelda.
“That’s an interesting consideration.” says Martin.
“Maybe it’s time to paint new paintings?” he kindly suggests.
“I don’t know. I’m not a painter, but I don’t need to look at it anymore so I can remove it from the easel.” she offers.
“It could symbolize a fresh start, Tusnelda. I miss our intimate moments, maybe we could….you know? You are a very attractive woman.” Martin tries.
“Well you flatter me Martin.” she giggles.
In the old days, they would have ended up in bed immediately. Now Tusnelda has instead ended up in the herb bed. There are lots of weeds to be removed and plants to be watered.
Martin runs on the treadmill. He seems almost obsessed with his training.
Tusnelda goes in to prepare dinner. Today she wants to make fried carp.
She enjoys cooking and wields the frying pan with confident dexterity. After all, she is a trained chef, even if it was a long time ago.
She calls Martin to the table and finds a seat.
Melvin meows loudly when he catches the smell of fried fish.
“Please Melvin, you have plenty of cat food in the feeder.” Martin scolds
Melvin looks at Martin in surprise. How can he imagine that dry cat food can be compared to freshly fried fish?
“We haven’t talked about your visit with Doctor Flex yet,” Martin says.
“It was just a quick check. It went fine.” Tusnelda answers shortly.
Martin holds back a little as he enjoys the smell of the food.
“You are an amazing cook, Tusnelda.” he says.
“Thank you Martin.” she says.
There is a restrained atmosphere between them that does not make the conversation go easily, but now Martin goes straight to the elephant in the room.
“So what exactly did the doctor tell you Tusnelda? Can we woohoo? Can we try for another pregnancy? Are there any considerations?” he asks.
“No the doctor said everything is fine… he told us to go for it and enjoy.” says Tusnelda, a bit under pressure.
Martin carries the dishes to the dishwasher. He would never leave dirty dishes behind.
“Did he really say go for it and enjoy? It sounds a bit bizarre, but if you knew how much I’ve missed you….shall we?” says Martin.
Maybe it’s not the most romantic invitation, but Martin really has been very patient and supportive for a long time. It must be her turn to give him some credit now.
*****
She looks at him as he walks through the door. He is a handsome man. It is difficult to read what is going on in him.
She really loves him and she wishes things hadn’t gone the way they did. Their loss has brought such a seriousness and a kind of distance between them.
But here they go…
An almost forgotten intimate moment between them. It feels both nice familiar and a little strange at the same time. A far cry from their glittering parties before seriousness crept in between them.
Martin quickly falls asleep and Tusnelda lies for a while looking at him.
Then emotions and anxiety rush over her like a tsunami and she jumps out of bed.
Fortunately, Martin is fast asleep.
She stands for a long time and looks at him. No matter what happens now, she will let him down.
Either she doesn’t get pregnant or she gets pregnant and has another miscarriage. Both predictions fill her with equal fear.
*****
Evening in San Myshuno
Fatima has left her job at the clinic for today. However, she is still in her work clothes as she sits bent over the computer in the bedroom.
She is answering a prospective customer. When this month is over, she is fully self-employed.
Now there is a knock on the door.
Ambrosius runs quickly ahead to catch sight of the guest. It’s Jade. A woman from across the hall.
Elijah is busy in the kitchen preparing dinner.
It will be Fatima who opens the door.
“Hey Jade! So nice to see you. I think I sense a baby bump.” she says kindly and Jade proudly shows off her belly.
It must be said that either Fatima has exceptionally good eyesight or she is just kind. Jade is slim as an eel and doesn’t show much sign of pregnancy.
*****
Jade has arrived just in time for dinner and Elijah offers her some food but she kindly declines.
“I just stopped by to see how you guys have arranged yourselves in your shared home.” she says.
“Well maybe you should ask Fatima, I kind of lived here for a while.” Elijah says looking at Fatima.
“So what’s it like not living in the overcrowded apartment anymore.” Jade asks.
“Well I think it will be good, but to talk about something else. Do you know if Marcus has been advertised for a new secretary?” Fatima asks seriously.
“You know, Marcus can be a little tricky to get to…He is writing some important stuff.” Jade replies, flailing her arms.
“Maybe you can talk to him tomorrow?” Jade says looking Fatima in the eye.
“That shouldn’t be your problem.” interjects Elijah.
“Fatima has a special approach to Marcus…” Jade begins to explain to Elijah.
Then there is another knock on the door.
“Don’t you think you could talk Fatima into keeping her job, Elijah?” Jade says as Fatima leaves the living room.
“I’m actually the one who persuaded her to quit, so no.” Elijah replies cheerfully.
“What!? Why on earth did you ask her to leave her job. Is she expecting a child?” Jade asks surprised.
Now they can hear someone approaching through the hallway. This time it’s John. Another of Fatima’s previous roommates.
“Nope. Not as far as I know.” Elijah replies with a smile in his eyes.
“But why did you ask her to quit her job?” insists Jade.
“I didn’t ask her to do it, but when I discovered she loves making web pages, I gave her a suggestion…. Shouldn’t we all spend our lives doing something we love?” Elijah asks seriously.
*****
Unlike Jade, John has not refused to eat with them. It must be Fatima who invited him.
Where is Fatima anyway?
“How was your day, John?” Jade asks kindly.
Elijah gets up to carry the dirty dishes to the kitchen sink. He had not expected that together with Fatima, her roommates moved into the apartment.
“I was on duty at the hospital today. We employed a midwife to join the medical team a few months ago and this afternoon we held a conference on natural childbirth.” says John.
“Natural birth? I’m not quite sure it’s for me? What does that even mean?” Jade answers with her mouth open.
“You and Marcus should go to a childbirth preparation course together. There you can learn everything about how to give birth naturally. Yes, Marcus already knows of course.” continues John.
“Maybe I should see if Marcus is done writing. Make some dinner.” says Jade quickly, a little awkwardly as if until now, she hasn’t even considered that after a pregnancy comes a birth.
“See you there.” John says kindly, with clear signs that he has no intention of leaving yet.
*****
Jade is on her way home, John stays to finish his dinner.
Elijah goes to the bathroom.
“We’re going to miss you Fatima.” says John.
“It’s not because I’m moving to the other side of the world, you know. You are always welcome to visit us.” she says with a big smile.
“Thank you Fatima. I will for sure.”
Elijah is bent over the sink. He should have foreseen that Fatima attracts people. He can’t blame them.
“I’m going to take a shower now, but you’re welcome to stay and play with the cat. He is called Ambrosius.” Fatima apologizes.
A more sensitive person would probably have stood up and said goodbye by now, but John feels comfortable like home and stays.
As Fatima has suggested, he spends time getting to know Ambrosius.
When Elijah returns to the kitchen, he does the dishes and sits down to talk to John about whatever interests him. Elias is a very nice man.
*****
Late evening in Brindleton Bay
Tusnelda has put on some warm nightwear and now she stands looking at the aquarium.
She thinks about the exhibition. Martin is in many ways so confident in his personality. This makes him someone she can count on and lean on.
She still feels a stress and can’t sleep. She therefore goes towards the computer.
She does a little searching on random web pages. Calming topics only like tips on gardening, cat videos and funny memes. No heavy subjects.
Then she spots an advertisement referring to an animal shelter’s website. She clicks on a link.
On a website, she sees a lot of homeless dogs offered for adoption. Most are adult dogs but also several puppies. They are so sweet and all miss a good home.
She turns off the computer. If they got a puppy, Martin would probably come to love it. Not all families have children and dogs are wonderful life companions.
She is awakened from her daydreams by Mia.
The kitten meows insistently as if it wants to tell her something.
“Yes, you’re probably right Mia. In this family we are cat loving people and not dog lovers. At least when it comes to Martin.” she sighs.

Late evening in San Myshuno
The heavy gray clouds have left San Myshuno and opened up to a starry dark night sky.
In the square in the middle of the Arts Quarter there are signs of life.
It’s the Humor and Hijinks Festival and on the square I happily recognize two characters who appeared in my first story.
Jeff and Angelo are now living in Windenburg with their cat Archimedes
In 920 Medina Studios Fatima has finished her bath.
“Here comes my princess, fully dressed and ready to see the world, so John, I must unfortunately cut our conversation short.” says Elijah.
“Of course Elijah. I was just about to leave.” says John.
“I’ve been looking forward to celebrating you moving in but the whole apartment has been like a fully booked hotel. Was I very rude to John?” Elijah says hesitantly.
“Yeah, you’re a very rude man Elijah.” she says, kissing him lightly on the cheek.
“Fatima, do you ever wonder if there’s a Watcher up there pulling some strings?”
“Should I be concerned about your mental state Elijah?”
“How else can I explain all the luck that has landed in my arms, Fatima?”
“You’re a positive man Elijah and it’s contagious…but honestly, did you really call me princess? I outgrew the princess stage years ago.” laughs Fatima.
“In my world you’re a princess, Fatima.”
She feels a soft warmth spreading through her body. He looks so serious and she doesn’t feel like contradicting him, even though he’s being silly now.
“Should we go down to the square and watch the fireworks?” Elijah asks.
“I’m already on my way.” she replies.
*****
Down in the square, Elijah keeps scanning the sky.
Is he still looking for the one holding the strings?
Fatima has seen their neighbor Salim.
“You’ve been pretty quiet lately, Salim. How are you?” she asks.
“Thank you Fatima, I’m fine.” he answers.
Now the fireworks have started and Elijah seems pretty excited.
In a fit of fun, Fatima wants to take a picture with Salim. On the same occasion, she invites him to attend her and Elijah’s wedding.
“Are you absolutely sure that this man is for you, Fatima?” Salim asks.
“I know what you’re trying to say Salim, but forget it. I’m absolutely sure.” she ends the conversation.
*****
When she finds Elijah he is still completely absorbed in the sky.
“Try and see the fireworks, Fatima. This is completely weird. They never light purple and yellow lights at the same time, what could that mean,” he says.
Both purple and yellow light formations can be seen in the sky.
“I guess it just means that everything doesn’t have to be either or….How about we go home now?” Fatima says sensibly.
“You are a clever woman, Fatima.” He says.

Midnight in Brindleton Bay
Tusnelda gets up quickly when she hears Martin coming through the bedroom door.
“Why aren’t you sleeping Sweetie?”
“Please come to bed with me” he says.
“I’m feeling a bit tense. I would like you to hold me if you can do without the sparks. I’m not in the mood.” she answers.
He will do anything for her so that’s how he lies for a long time with her in his arms, while he hears her restless breathing fall into a calm rhythm.
Everything seems to be going so much better and yet he is sure that something painful is bothering her.
Suddenly she lifts her face and looks at him. “You know I love you, do you?” she says seriously.
“I know Sweetie and I love you too, but Tusnelda, is there something we should talk about?” he answers softly.
Quick as a gust of wind, she is out of bed.
“Tusnelda! Where are you going?” he asks.
“I just need to go to the bathroom Martin. There’s nothing to worry about.” she says.
Despite her reassurance, he can’t help but worry.
Experience tells him she needs time. There’s nothing he can do tonight so he might as well lay down to sleep. Better days than this will come.
*****
To Tusnelda’s relief, Martin is fast asleep when she returns to bed. She didn’t feel like talking now, but tomorrow she might want to make a new appointment with Doctor Kristine? Maybe.
She snuggles up to him in bed and even while he sleeps he puts his arm protectively around her. She is loved and safe.

Midnight in San Myshuno
Although Fatima has spent the night in Elijah’s apartment countless times, this feels like something special.
She moved in today and their wedding is just around the corner. So much happiness is almost incomprehensible.
“Fatima, I think I’m dreaming.” he says.
“Well, I think I have a suggestion that might wake you up.” she whispers cheerfully.
“Fatima! you are naughty girl.” he says with a wink.
“It’s worth a try, what do you have to lose?” she giggles.
*****
He watches her as she walks towards the bed. She looks so calm and confident in her own worth.
He knew she was something special from their first meeting. A pearl in a seashell. He could look at her forever. Enjoy her transformation.
When he lies down on the bed, she throws herself playfully at him. Tickling him and blowing him in his face.
“Fatima I can’t catch my breath!” he gasps.
She raises herself on her elbow and looks him in the eyes.
“You know I love you, don’t you?”
“I know Fatima and I love you.”
She bends over him and gives him a long kiss. This time careful not to squeeze the air out of him. She doesn’t want to lose him.
He makes himself more comfortable and pulls her onto his lap. “What can I do for you today Fatima?” he asks.
“Use your imagination Elijah! Surprise me.” she whispers.
“At your service princess. Your wishes will be met.” he says.
This time she doesn’t contradict him.

So here we go again…. 👀
Let’s see where Ambrosius takes us…..
*****
Elsewhere in the world, the Watcher is busy gathering new inspiration, but something disturbs her thoughts…..
The Wacher does not seem to share Ambrosius’ point of view.
Thanks to Ambrosius for his promptness.
The Watcher appears to have no comments.

Here comes, as usual, a small piece of music that might speak to the subject, otherwise I’ll just say. Enjoy 💖

Author’s note: This chapter has been unreasonably long in the making. For some months I have been much troubled by sciatic pain, which has prevented me from sitting in a chair and writing. I have spent several hours on a large air-filled yoga ball doing exercises to strengthen my core.
Now, fortunately, I have reached the point where I can sit at my keyboard again, and I have started to walk longer distances. (This was probably information that no one needs, but it has occupied most of my attention for months.)
During my break I have occasionally played in my test game. I have tried different game settings and Mods. Along the way I became quite attached to some of these Sims so I felt tempted to stay there forever. 😅
I tested, among other things, PandaSama’s Child Birth Mod. Without this test, this chapter would not have come to look like it does. I never thought I was missing something like this in my game and didn’t imagine all the heartwarming poses it contains besides a more natural birth. I am impressed and would like to give her a big thank you. 🥰
Fortunately, I found my way home to these lovable characters. I started working on this chapter over a week ago. I had uploaded all the pictures and I was just missing a bit of the text and a final proofread when we were suddenly presented with the new Sims Forum. 😵
I must say it robbed my concentration. I am in shock and I had to give my feedback to the admins to get it out of my system. I am certainly not the only one who has pointed out shortcomings and a “most liked” default construction that encourages a cult of popularity. Time will tell if anyone is listening.
Now it’s time to finish the chapter regardless of obstacles. I feel maybe it’s been a little too long and not well enough edited, but I still hope it made sense for most of the sections. Thanks for reading 💖

So glad to hear your exercises have helped with the sciatic pain! That is great news. I loved this chapter, as always. You know, I’ve worked places where the secretaries had to advertise their job openings when they were getting ready to leave, who had to screen the applicants and schedule the interviews, and who even had to file the hiring paperwork for their replacement! It happens! Secretaries keep the world functioning.
I’m so excited to meet Andy’s new sibling!

Thanks Cathy I always appreciate your comment 💖
I have worked as a school secretary for a number of years and I clearly remember when I had to screen over 200 applications in order to select those that fit the management’s criteria. In recent years, all applications are electronic and so is the selection procedure.
I avoided reading applications for my own replacement, but I did make sure that the new secretary was security cleared, got access to the administrative systems and her replacement regarding salary.
It happened four months before the covid lockdown, so I don’t regret it. I was spared a lot of trouble.
I’ve already taken pictures for Izumi’s birth and I guess it’s lucky before the update to LoveStruck. I predict all Mods need a big update after.
There will probably be a single chapter before the birth, so you still have to be patient 😉

It is so good to have you back, I have missed your writing and your lovely characters. I am glad your pain is less troublesome, I hope you continue to get better ❤️
It was nice to catch up with everyone, I really think Tusnelda should consider therapy, she has so much anger and guilt still. I’m happy to see that Martin is there for her, she can never disappoint him ❤️

Thank you for your comment ❤
It was definitely a big catch-up on the characters. I feel it is an overload of information, but I probably needed to get to know the characters’ personalities again.
Martin is an anchor in Tusnelda’s life, regardless of whether she is flying into the sky or gripped by anxiety.
I don’t know if she’s ready for therapy yet or ever will be. She has a rather matter-of-fact approach to life. When she cannot analyze a solution to a problem, she concludes that it does not exist. Sometimes she just needs to reach out ❤

Welcome back! Took me a while to get to this but it’s always nice to read more Tusnelda 🥰
Aw, something tells me that Marcus doesn’t do anything towards getting a new secretary because he doesn’t want to think about losing his current one. And judging from his reaction to Fatima’s accusation, it seems that I’m right.
Oh, Tusnelda… she sees miscarriage as her fault, the poor woman. And that thought is too crushing to bear, so her brain tries to blame it on the doctors for not “science-ing” properly. Some therapy would actually do her a world of good, I bet.
Ooooh so that is the child birth mod? It’s very detailed I love how you made that scene – very realistic and Rasmus’s little realisation was adorable. And both couples showing their love for each other afterwards, too <3
Alice has really grown, too. I was afraid that she’d fall back into the same pattern that she had with Rasmus, but it seems like she’s got her head on straight this time around. Well done, Alice.
Haha, the last bit with Ambrosius made me laugh xD

Hi Yimiki. First of all, thank you for your comment, which I also came to a little late. I seem to be caught up in projects other than my story 😎
I don’t think Marcus is much in favor of letting go of Fatima, although he may have started to see an advantage in hiring a secretary who is not as tough and nosy as her.
Tusnelda still has a lot of guilt and shame to deal with, even if Martin tries to support her in she is not to blame. In order to make peace with herself, she can only blame the lack of expertise in medical science.
Rasmus seems to be a little overwhelmed by the task of birth assistant. It’s good for him that Izumi has the calmness he lacks and that they are bound together by their love for each other.
That Child Birth Mod is great for describing their relationship.
Alice is doing really well, but questions are how long? 🤔 There will be an update on her in the next chapter.
Ambrosius is perfect in his task as guardian of morality, while the lazy Watcher lies dreaming away the time 😂
